Google Leaks Future Plans for Google Apps!!!!

Why I use the word LEAK? Coz, Google has been very careful in reveling any plans about its products or any plans for those products.

Google normally doesn’t leak product information beforehand, but surprisingly this time, they’ve released some details over the future plans for Google Apps. Scott Johnston, a Google employee and former VP of JotSpot (yup, the same company which was acquired by Google last year) gave a presentation which hints us that Google will launch a JotSpot based product called Google Sites at some point later next year.

Google Sites will grow upon Google Page Creator and the collaborative tools of JotSpot to allow “business to set up intranets, project management tracking, customer extranets, and any number of custom sites based on multi-user collaboration”. Google Sites will replace Google Page Creator.
Most Google assets will be integrated with Google Gears to enable offline support. This includes Google Docs, Gmail and Google Calendar.

Scott Johnston also acknowledged that GrandCentral will be a part of Google Apps, but it won’t be available shortly.

Microsoft Vista Transformation Pack Released!!!!!

Last week, Windows X released Vista Transformation Pack 8 which adds more Vista-like looks to your Windows XP/2003 machine. The latest version of VTP 8 completely replicates Window Vista without paying the hefty price or compromising on stability of Windows XP. Here’s a screenshot (click here to enlarge) of Windows XP with VTP8:

They’ve included WinFlip application, which clones the famous Flip3D task switcher for Vista. TrueTransparency 0.8.5 which bring Aero glass-like transparency effects has also been added to VTP8 pack. Here’s a brief list of changes seen in VTP 8:

I tried VTP8 before writing this post, and I must admit that they’ve impressively cloned Vista’s UI with all those fancy elements like Aero Glass, Vista Sidebar, Welcome Center, ViStart (Vista-like start menu) and Visual Tooltip.

Previously, I had some issues uninstalling VTP. I’d advise you to create a restore point before installing VTP 8, so that you won’t run into trouble uninstalling it.

Adobe, Yahoo! to Push Text-based ads in PDF Files

Adobe and Yahoo! have introduced a new service which will allow publishers to insert Yahoo’s contextual advertisements inside Adobe’s portable document format to generate money. Ads will be contextually related to the matter inside the PDF file, when viewed with Adobe Reader or Acrobat Writer.

Text-based ads served by Yahoo! will only be shown in the side panel, outside the actual content region. This ensures that your reading experience isn’t spoilt, but for content publishers it’ll be hard to get clicks on ads which are outside the content region.

Currently Ads for PDF is open for only a limited number of qualified publishers. I think it’s a step in the right direction to rescue the ebook business. As a reader, I won’t mind seeing some ads to get the ebook for free. If PDF ads become widely adopted, it might open up a whole new business model for content publishers and stand up as an alternative to subscription based model.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see PDF readers which can block ads in the near future. Can you tolerate ads for free content? Talk through comments.

Google Reader Gets a Make-Over: New Features!!!!

Google Reader just keeps getting better and better. This time, Google Reader Team has announced two new features - personalized recommendations and drag-and-drop feed management.

Instead of using menus to move your subscription to a different folder, you can now do it by simply dragging and dropping feeds into a different folder. You can also move feeds up or down in the same folder by dragging-and-dropping. This makes it a whole lot easier to manage your feeds.

The next new feature is personalized recommendations. Google Reader will now take a look at your subscriptions and web history data and recommends new feeds which will suite your taste. If you’re looking for new blogs to be added to your subscription, then this is a great place to start. However, if you’re someone like me who spends 3 – 4 hours per day going through feeds, then stay away from this feature unless you want your eyes to be glued to your screen all day.

In other Google related news, Blogger now allows you to leave comments using your OpenID. Prior to this, you need a Blogger or Google Account to leave non-anonymous comments.
